Plasma is often referred to as the “fourth state of matter” after solid, liquid and gas and is classified in two categories; thermal and nonthermal or cold plasma. Low temperature of cold plasma enables it to be employed with a number of applications including surface modification.
Cold plasma is composed of electrically charged particles like ions and electrons, photons, atoms, free radicals and excited or non-excited molecules. Because of the large amount of energetic and highly reactive species, plasma can interact with any surface and introduce it some new properties.
